Family Date Night at Ruby’s DIner on the Pier

family date night

You know I love date night with the Hubby. But I also love a good family date! Family Date Night doesn’t have to be extravagant it just has to be intentional and with the family. Simple. We try to do it once a week and our kiddos really look forward to that special time with us.

This time we went to Ruby’s Diner on the Huntington Beach Pier. So fun! The walk to the restaurant was an adventure to the kiddos. I had the strangest feeling one of the kiddos would fall off. Do you ever have those irrational moments? When you plan out the whole “what if” scenario? It didn’t help that Eli was a crazy maniac climbing on all the pillars… very uncharacteristic of our cautious first born. IMG_7665 IMG_7657 IMG_7662

Here was my plan…

If one of the kiddos fell in, I couldn’t jump in because I would kill myself and then the remaining kiddos would be siblingless and motherless. Brad could maybe do it. But I wasn’t about to actually ask him at that moment because then it would only confirm he married a psycho nut who plans extensively for off-the-wall situations. Anyway, lets say he did jump in because he’s totally a save the day type guy. Then I would run screaming down the pier that a child fell off and hope a local beach guy/gal would jump in to help out. I mean, have you been in that Ruby’s?? I would bet half the staff has jumped off the pier on a dare. They are all young and beachy looking. I was just glad that no one did fall in… mostly because my plan totally stunk!

Cora walked to Ruby’s with her hands on her Lid because she didn’t want it to fall off. (In case you’re wondering, the Lid won’t fall off. It’s cozy cotton/lycra blend keeps it snug on lil’ heads!)

Cy was just chillin’ in his blazer. I forgot his jacket (poor 3rd baby) and luckily we found it hiding under a seat in the minivan. At least I had Lids!

Ruby’s is such a great place for kiddos. The décor is super fun, the staff is awesome and if you’re lucky Rambo will come by and make your little pirate a pirate sword. Rambo was the name on his nametag but I’m having a hard time believing his mom always dreamed of having a lil’ Rambo around the house…IMG_7686

Cora Jane asked for a My Little Pony but Rambo didn’t know how to make a horse.  Her second choice was a pink pirate sword. Of course.

On our walk back to the car we were chatting with another family. I shared with the mom about my irrational fear of one of them falling off the pier. She told me they canceled a cruise because she had a dream one of her kiddos would fall off the ship.

That made me feel better.

I’m a mom.

And I’m a little crazy.

That’s cool.

Because we are all a little crazy.

Happy Family Date night! Tonight we are going to Farrells in Mission Viejo!!

Sewing saves lives

We have a little lady at home.

She’s pretty cool…

She falls asleep anywhere, and she dances to the rhythm of her own lil’ drummer…

She’s a girly girl and we treat her like… well… a princess. One with strict rules and boundaries… of course… lol!

She doesn’t know about slavery, hunger, strife or poverty. (We live in Orange County for goodness sake!) Unfortunately for little girls around the world bondage is a reality.

International princess 1 I was introduced to International Princess Project years ago while on staff at a local church. The organization is amazing and they are ACTUALLY making a difference in the lives of women in India though sewing. (Because sewing rules and you should totally start.)

International princess 2 Women who are rescued from brothels need some sort of occupation… Enter International PrincessTM Project. The women are trained to make some pretty kick a&$ stuff:

Pacific Waters Spa at the Hyatt Huntington

Thanks to the folks over at OC Family I got to go to the Pacific Waters Spa at the Hyatt Huntington Beach for a girls spa night with my blogging buddies.
It was amazing!
Side note about the Hyatt Huntington: Hot Hubby and I had the first few nights of our honeymoon there and almost burned the hotel down because my romantic groom had his best man light 180 (yes one hundred and eighty) candles in the room an hour before we got there. The room was about 200 degrees when we walked in and there was candle wax dripping everywhere.
See…
Dear Hyatt,
Thank you for not charging us for the red candle wax all over the ledge and carpet.
Kisses, KN
I got to spend the evening with Aracely (Daytripping Mom), Liz (Thoughts of a Mommy) & Lydia (Vintage Beauty Blog).
I can’t believe we didn’t take pix together!!
We learned about loads of home spa treatments. (Recipes below!)
My favorite?
The strawberry toner spray.
My skin felt silky, soft and tight after I sprayed myself.
Wait there’s more…
We got a massage.
A real one.
My masseuse was Allie. She has been at the spa since it opened.
She was good!
There’s more!!
We got a facial and hand treatment too!
Wish I would have gotten more pictures of their place. There is only 7 on the site and it doesn’t do it justice!
You should totally get more pix on your site. Try some of my favs Sipper Photography, Jen Johnson Photography, Tammy Mitchell Photography, or Brave Little Duck
Love, KN

The Staff:
Hot Hubby
Hot Hubby is the resident tech guy at Eli’s Lids. He gets all my ideas onto the computer so I can create. He is also the lifter of heavy things, killer of (small) spiders, and indulges my Anthropologie obsession. Though he has been know to slack off regularly because everybody knows he’s sleeping with the boss… often.

Eli
Our first born and the original inspiration for Eli’s Lids. Pirate obsessed. Cautious. Loves peach yogurt and veggies. Tells knock knock jokes like nobody’s business. Tall. Striking blue eyes. Doesn’t let anyone pick on his lil’ sister and brother… except him!

Cora Jane
Dances to the beat of her own lil’ drummer. Loves getting her nails painted and playing games on Daddy’s iPhone. Adventurous. Perfect hair. Hates mornings. Can give a mean stink eye. Wants to read princess books all day.

Cyrus
My favorite (yeah I said it). Snuggler. Sweet tempered. Knock-out smile. French kisses everyone. Water baby. The reason I want more kiddos!
