Surfers Healing

Eli’s Lids proudly dontates 10% of our profits to Surfers Healing!

History: Surfers Healing was founded by Israel and Danielle Paskowitz.Their son, Isaiah, was diagnosed with autism at age three. Like many autistic children, he often suffered from sensory overload– simple sensations could overwhelm him. The ocean was the one place where he seemed to find respite.

A former competitive surfer, Israel hit upon an idea–with Isaiah on the front of his surfboard, and Izzy steering from the back, the two spent the day surfing together. Surfing had a profound impact on Isaiah. Israel and Danielle decided they wanted to share this unique therapy with other autistic children. They began to host day camps at the beach where autistic children and their families could be exposed to a completely new experience of surfing.

The Camps are FREE: We don’t feel that its right to charge for our camps. The only way we are able to do this is by the generosity of people such as yourselves. We would like to increase the number of camps this coming year. More funding will help us accomplish this.

Our expenses are many. Most visible are wetsuits, surfboards, rash guards, life vests and other equipment that must be replaced every season. Food and drinks are provided to the kids and their families. Beach permits, insurance, and administration are other equally important if less visible expenses that we incur.
Surfers Healing is operated on a shoe string budget. Sometimes when we are low on gear our volunteers buy their own special boards for the camp to make the day that much more enjoyable for the kids. (Our volunteers are the greatest!)

You can help: Please make a tax-deductible donation to our organization. To give you an idea of the costs involved it takes approximately 75.00 to completely sponsor a child. This money covers insurance, beach permits, equipment upkeep and maintenance, lunch for the child and his family. So therefore 25.00 dollar donation would cover a third of 1 child’s day at the camp.
Hold a fundraiser to benefit Surfers Healing. Bake Sales, Car washes, BBQ’s, Paddle around the pier, and music events are good examples of benefits.
Volunteer on the beach on the day of an event.
